BRONCOS SIGN FREE-AGENT DL JASON HUNTER

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Thursday signed free-agent defensive lineman Jason Hunter, it was announced. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hunter
(6-foot-4, 271 pounds) is a fifth-year player who has played in 56 career games (9 starts) with Detroit (2009) and Green Bay (2006-08) and totaled 42 tackles (31 solo), seven sacks (32 yds.), one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.

He played 14 games (9 starts) for the Lions last season and recorded career highs with 34 tackles (27 solo) and five sacks (27 yds.) to go along with two fumble recoveries.

A Division I-AA second-team All-America selection as a senior at Appalachian State University in 2005, he played in 50 career games (15 starts) for the Mountaineers and totaled 186 tackles (110 solo), 38.5 tackles for a loss, 24 sacks, five forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and an interception.

He earned honorable mention all-conference honors at E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, N.C., after posting 87 tackles and 9.5 sacks in his only year playing prep football. He was born on Aug. 28, 1983.
