    During the above two-day negotiating period, no direct contact is permitted between a prospective unrestricted free agent and any employee or representative of a club, other than the player’s current club.

    Trading period for 2017 begins at 4:00 p.m., New York time, after expiration of all 2016 contracts.

The Denver Broncos on Tuesday named Johnnie Lynn the team’s assistant defensive backs coach, head coach Vance Joseph announced.
Lynn, who has 28 years of NFL experience as a player or a coach, most recently served as Oakland’s defensive backs coach from 2012-13. He also coached with Philadelphia (2011), San Francisco (2006-10, 1996), Baltimore (2004-05), New York Giants (1997-03), Tampa Bay (1994-95) and the University of Arizona (1987-93).
During Lynn’s two seasons with the Raiders (2012-13), Lynn preceded Broncos Defensive Coordinator Joe Woods as Oakland’s defensive backs coach. He worked with veteran Charles Woodson, who made his return to Oakland for his 16th NFL season in 2013 as well as cornerback D.J. Hayden, who was selected by the team with the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Before joining the Raiders, Lynn coached Philadelphia’s secondary and cornerbacks in 2011. The unit included talented cornerbacks Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Asante Samuel and Nnamdi Asomugha, who contributed to the team’s 10th-ranked pass defense (212.3 ypg).
Lynn spent five seasons in San Francisco (2006-10) coaching the secondary alongside Joseph, as the defensive backfield contributed to a defense that consistently ranked in the top-10 in red zone defense.
As defensive coordinator (2002-03) and defensive backs coach (1997-01) with the Giants, Lynn helped New York make the postseason three times, including an appearance in Super Bowl XXXV. In his first season as a defensive coordinator, the Giants finished third in scoring defense (17.4 ppg) and ninth in total defense (309.3 ypg).
Lynn began his NFL coaching career in 1994 with Tampa Bay as the team’s secondary coach after working on the University of Arizona’s staff for seven years (1987-93) coaching linebackers and defensive backs.
Selected in the fourth round (98th overall) by the New York Jets in the 1979 NFL Draft, Lynn played 97 games (48 starts) for New York in his eight-year playing career, totaling 17 interceptions (271 yds., 1 TD).
A standout defensive back at UCLA, Lynn was born on Dec. 19, 1956.
