DENVER —Denver Broncos live mascot Thunder will serve as the grand marshal for the National Western Stock Show Parade on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 12 p.m. Thunder will be the first non-human to serve as the grand marshal in the parade’s 33-year history.

Thunder, along with owners Ernie Blake and Sharon Magness Blake and rider/trainer Ann Judge, will lead the march of Longhorn cattle, horses and western wagons through the streets of downtown Denver to celebrate the start of the 2017 National Western Stock Show. The parade route will begin at Union Station and proceed 15 blocks down 17th street.

“After being involved at the stock show for 30 years, I am so excited that Thunder has received the honor of being the grand marshal of the stock show parade,” Magness Blake said. “Thunder is one of the most amazing horses that I have ever owned.”

Thunder (III), a 2000 grey Arabian gelding, is in his fourth season as the Broncos’ live mascot. He is provided by Thunder Spirit LLC of Denver.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate Thunder, not only as the best mascot in the NFL, but also as a symbol of our western spirit and a representative of the equine community,” President & CEO of the National Western Stock Show Paul Andrews said. “Sharon, Ernie and Ann are an invaluable part of the Stock Show family and embody the western lifestyle.  We appreciate them sharing Thunder with us and with all of Denver.”

Thunder makes annual appearances at the National Western Stock Show, equestrian events, Magness Blake's Western Fantasy fundraiser, public exhibitions, charity functions and visits to schools and hospitals.
The National Western Stock Show, established in 1906, is the premier livestock, rodeo and horse show in the nation, serving agricultural producers and consumers throughout the world.
