BRONCOS SIGN CB TAUREAN NIXON FROM PRACTICE SQUAD; RELEASE TE JOHN PHILLIPS

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos on Saturday signed cornerback Taurean Nixon from their practice squad and released veteran tight end John Phillips, it was announced.
       
Nixon (5-10, 187 pounds) is a second-year player who spent the last two seasons primarily competing on Denver’s practice squad. He was promoted to Denver’s 53-man roster for the 2015 postseason but was inactive for all three playoff contests.
       
Selected by the Broncos in the seventh round (251st overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft, Nixon started 21-of-38 games during his collegiate career with the University of Memphis (2010-11) and Tulane University (2012-14), totaling 92 tackles (71 solo), two interceptions (17 yds.), 10 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
       
Taurean (pronounced TORE-ee-un) attended Southern Lab High School in Baton Rouge, La., and was born on Feb. 7, 1991, in New Orleans.
