BRONCOS CLAIM FB TOBEN OPURUM OFF WAIVERS FROM NEW ORLEANS; WAIVE TE ANTHONY NORRIS
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Tuesday claimed fullback Toben Opurum off waivers from New Orleans and waived rookie tight end Anthony Norris, it was announced.
Opurum (6-1, 250 pounds) is a fourth-year player who appeared in two games for the Saints in 2015. A former practice-squad member with Kansas City (2013), Houston (2014) and New Orleans (2014-15), he entered the NFL with the Chiefs as a college free agent from the University of Kansas in 2013.
As a linebacker for the Jayhawks during his final three collegiate seasons, Opurum totaled 109 career tackles (59 solo), 6.5 sacks (47 yds.), 19.5 tackles for a loss, seven passes defensed, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He played running back for Kansas as a true freshman and earned Rivals.com Freshman All-Big 12 Conference honors after totaling 659 all-purpose yards (554 rushing / 105 receiving) and 10 total touchdowns.
A three-year starter at running back, linebacker, punter and kick returner at Plano (Texas) East High School, Opurum was born on Nov. 18, 1990, in Richardson, Texas.
