ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Saturday agreed to terms with free-agent tight end James Casey on a one-year contract, Executive Vice President of Football Operations/General Manager John Elway announced.

Casey is a seventh-year player who has appeared in 92 regular-season games (23 starts) and five playoff contests (1 start) during his career with Houston (2009-12) and Philadelphia (2013-14).

He owns 72 career receptions for 842 yards (11.7 avg.) with six touchdowns on offense in addition to 50 tackles on special teams. In the postseason, he has totaled four receptions for 49 yards (12.3avg.) with one special-teams stop.

In 2014, Casey led the NFL with 439 snaps played on special teams while posting 13 tackles and two blocked punts for the Eagles.

Drafted by the Texans in the fifth round (152nd overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft from Rice University, Casey improved his offensive receiving totals each season with the club. He totaled a career-high 34 receptions for 330 yards (9.7 avg.) with three touchdowns while starting 9-of-16 games for Houston in 2012.

Casey saw action in 25 career games (17 starts) during his collegiate career at Rice and totaled 157 receptions for 1,914 yards (12.2. avg.) with 17 touchdowns. He also added 102 carries for 392 yards (3.8 avg.) with 11 touchdowns on the ground. He was named a unanimous first-team All-Conference USA selection following his senior season in 2008 when he set school records with 111 catches for 1,329 yards.

A football and baseball standout at Azle (Texas) High School, Casey was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the seventh round of the 2003 MLB Draft. He spent three years at a pitcher in the organization before pursuing his career in football.

Casey was born on Sept. 22, 1984, in Fort Worth, Texas.
