BRONCOS TE JULIUS THOMAS NAMED AFC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos tight end Julius Thomas was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career, the NFL informed the Broncos on Wednesday.

Thomas caught seven passes for 104 yards (14.9 avg.) with three touchdowns in Denver’s season-opening 31-24 win against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. His three receiving scores led all NFL players in Week 1 and tied the Broncos’ single-game record for a tight end.

His performance represented just the ninth 100-yard, multiple-touchdown game by a Broncos tight end and the third such accomplishment of his career.

Thomas, who was named to his first Pro Bowl last year, has totaled 15 receiving touchdowns since the beginning of last season to rank first in the AFC (T-2nd in the NFL) during that span.

This marks the 54th time a Broncos player has taken home AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors and just the fourth occasion a Denver tight end has won the award since it was initiated by the NFL in 1984.
