BRONCOS DESIGNATE TIGHT END JOEL DREESSEN AS RELEASED/FAILED PHYSICAL

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. —The Denver Broncos on Tuesday designated tight end Joel Dreessen as released/failed physical, the team announced.

The ninth-year veteran appeared in 29 regular-season games (15 starts) with the Broncos during the last two seasons and totaled 48 receptions for 403 yards (8.4 avg.) with six touchdowns. He posted six catches for 46 yards in one postseason start for the team.

He opened a career-best 15 games for the Broncos in 2012 and tallied a personal-best 41 receptions for 356 yards (8.7 avg.) with five touchdowns.

Before signing with Denver as an unrestricted free agent on March 29, 2012, Dreessen spent five seasons (2007-11) with Houston and one year (2005) with the N.Y. Jets. His career totals include 158 receptions for 1,767 yards (11.2 avg.) with 19 touchdowns in 120 regular-season games (49 starts).

He was selected by the Jets in the sixth round (198th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft after a standout collegiate career at Colorado State University. A two-time All-Mountain West Conference selection for the Rams, he started all 45 games played in four seasons for the school and collected 123 receptions for 1,295 yards (10.5 avg.) with 10 touchdowns.

An all-state performer as a senior at Fort Morgan (Colo.) High School, Dreessen was born on July 26, 1982, in Ida Grove, Iowa.
