BRONCOS QB PEYTON MANNING NAMED AFC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season and the 26th time in his career, the NFL informed the Broncos on Tuesday.

Manning completed 32-of-51 passes for 400 yards with four touchdowns (113.2 rtg.) in Denver’s AFC West-clinching 37-13 win against the Houston Texans on Sunday. His fourth and final touchdown of the day—a 25-yarder to tight end Julius Thomas in the fourth quarter—was his 51st of the season, passing Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (2007) for the most in a single season in NFL history.

His performance represented his seventh career game with 400 yards passing and four touchdowns, tying Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino for the all-time record. His four games accomplishing that feat this season are more than any player besides Marino has recorded in an entire career.

The award marks the 26th time Manning has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week, adding to his NFL record. It’s the fifth time he has earned the honor with Denver (Weeks 6 & 17 in 2012 and Weeks 1 & 3 in 2013) and the 53rd time a Broncos player has taken home the award.
