BRONCOS SIGN FREE-AGENT DE JEREMY MINCEY; WAIVE C J.D. WALTON

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos on Tuesday signed free-agent defensive end Jeremy Mincey and waived center J.D. Walton, it was announced.

Mincey (6-4, 265 pounds) is a sixth-year player who spent the beginning of his career with Jacksonville playing 64 regular-season games (40 starts) and totaling 276 tackles (162 solo), 20 sacks (136 yds.), one interception (5 yds.), 13 passes defensed, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. In two postseason contests, he contributed three tackles and one sack (4 yds.).

He started all 32 possible games for the Jaguars from 2011-12 and recorded 11 of his 20 career sacks during that span. During his 2011 campaign, Mincey tallied career highs in tackles (101), sacks (8.0) and forced fumbles (4) to lead the Jaguars in the latter two categories.

Drafted by New England in the sixth round (191st overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft, he spent the majority of his rookie year on San Francisco’s practice squad before being signed to Jacksonville’s active roster for the last three weeks of the season.

He played his final two collegiate seasons at the University of Florida after transferring from Butler County (Kan.) Community College. Starting all 24 career games played for the Gators, Mincey earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors as a senior after totaling 62 tackles (31 solo) and 10.5 tackles for a loss.

Mincey graduated from Statesboro (Ga.) High School and was born on Dec. 14, 1983.

Walton (6-3, 305 pounds) is a fourth-year center who started all 36 regular-season games played as well as two postseason contests for the Broncos after being drafted by the club in the third round (80th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft from Baylor University.

He spent the majority of the 2012 season on injured reserve and was on the club’s reserve/PUP list for the first eight games of the 2013 campaign before returning to the active roster for the team’s last six contests.
