ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos have announced that longtime Vice President of Public Relations Jim Saccomano is assuming a new position as Vice President of Corporate Communications and that Patrick Smyth is now Executive Director of Media Relations for the National Football League team.

Saccomano, who is entering his 33rd year with the club, beginning in 1978, now assumes a broader role in which he will supervise the media relations department and team Web site at a senior level while having an advisory role with ownership and executive management in all public relations matters. In addition, he will represent the Broncos and their subsidiary companies on various boards and committees, including his continued role on the board of the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.

The author of two books on the Broncos, Saccomano will continue to write for all team publications, including the Web site, putting emphasis on his historical and institutional knowledge of the Broncos and NFL public relations.

The longest tenured pro sports administrator in Colorado history, Saccomano has received numerous honors and has been part of the Super Bowl PR staff for every game since Super Bowl XVIII.

Smyth is now in charge of all day-to-day operations of the media relations department, including decisions regarding logistics, philosophy and personnel.

As such, he is the team’s primary media contact for all interviews and press announcements, including relationships with the league, radio and television network partners, and NFL Films. He also oversees the production of all media relations content, including the club’s media guide, and works as an internal contact for departments within the organization generating promotional material.

Smyth, 27, is entering his seventh season with the Broncos and joined the club after graduating from the University of Florida. Selected by the NFL to work the last three AFC Championship Games and a member of the league’s statistics committee, Smyth spent three years in the Gators’ sports information department and also has worked for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Flyers.
