ENGLEWOOD, Colo.— The Denver Broncos on Thursday were assigned cornerback Nigel Malone off waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers, it was announced.

Malone (5-10, 180 pounds) is a rookie from Kansas State University who was signed by the Steelers as a college free agent on June 5. He was waived by the club on July 30.

A two-year starter at Kansas State, Malone posted 12 interceptions for the Wildcats after transferring from City College of San Francisco.

He graduated from Sierra High School in Mateca, Calif., and was born on Sept. 26, 1990.
