BRONCOS AGREE TO TERMS WITH FREE-AGENT LB SHAUN PHILLIPS
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — TheDenver Broncos on Saturday agreed to terms with free-agent linebacker Shaun Phillips, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway announced.
Phillips (6-3, 250 pounds) is a 10-year player who saw action in 136 career regular-season games (108 starts) during his first nine NFL seasons with San Diego, totaling 499 tackles (354 solo), 69.5 sacks (440.5 yds.), six interceptions (67 yds.), 41 passes defensed, 20 forced fumbles and 10 fumble recoveries. In eight career playoff games (7 starts), he collected 40 tackles (27 solo), 1.5 sacks (8.5 yds.), one pass defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
He was named to his first Pro Bowl following the 2010 season in which he posted 11 sacks for the AFC West-Champion Chargers.
Originally drafted by San Diego in the fourth round (98th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft from Purdue University, Phillips finished his collegiate career with school records for sacks (33.5) and tackles for a loss (60.5).
Phillips attended Willingboro (N.J.) High School, where he was an all-state selection in football, and was born on May 13, 1981, in Philadelphia.
