BRONCOS RE-SIGN DEFENSIVE END JASON HUNTER

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos re-signed free-agent defensive end Jason Hunter on Thursday, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway announced.

Hunter (6-foot-4, 271 pounds) is a seventh-year player who has seen action in 88 career regular-season games (23 starts) with Denver (2010-11), Detroit (2009) and Green Bay (2006-08), totaling 128 tackles (101 solo), 11 sacks (68 yds.), one interception (14 yds.), two forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries. He has played four postseason contests and recorded four tackles (2 solo).

He has participated in all 32 regular-season games and both playoff matches for the Broncos since joining the team as a free agent during the 2010 preseason. He started a career-high 12 games in 2010 while helping fill in for injured defensive end Elvis Dumervil and recorded a personal-best 59 tackles (48 solo), three sacks (30 yds.), one interception (14 yds.), one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries that year.

Hunter, who entered the NFL with the Packers as a college free agent in 2006, played 50 career games at Division I-AA Appalachian State University, where he helped lead the Mountaineers to a national title as a senior. He played one season of football at E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, N.C., and was born on Aug. 28, 1983.
