    During the period beginning at 12 noon, New York time, on March 7th and ending at 3:59:59 p.m., New York time, on March 9th, clubs are permitted to contact, and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2016 player contracts at 4:00 p.m., New York time, on March 9. However, a contract cannot be executed with a new club until 4:00 p.m., New York time, on March 9.

    During the above two-day negotiating period, no direct contact is permitted between a prospective unrestricted free agent and any employee or representative of a club, other than the player’s current club.

    Trading period for 2017 begins at 4:00 p.m., New York time, after expiration of all 2016 contracts.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Tuesday signed wide receiver Quan Cosby to their active roster and added tight end John Nalbone to their practice squad, it was announced.

To make room for Cosby on its 53-man roster, the club waived running back Jeremiah Johnson.

(5-foot-9, 189 pounds) is a third-year player who spent his first two NFL seasons with Cincinnati after signing with the Bengals as a college free agent from the University of Texas on May 1, 2009.

In 32 career games, he totaled six receptions for 71 yards (11.8 avg.) on offense in addition to extensive return duties on special teams. He totaled the second-most punt returns (70) in the NFL from 2009-10, averaging 10.0 yards per return along with 16 kickoff returns (17.7 avg.). His 474 punt return yards in 2009 set a Bengals record and led the NFL.

He played 52 games (32 starts) in four seasons at Texas, finishing second in school history in receptions (212), third in receiving yards (2,598) and fourth in receiving touchdowns (19).

A two-time Class 2A all-state selection at quarterback and defensive back at Mart High School in Mart, Texas, Cosby was born on Dec. 23, 1982. His first name is pronounced KWAHN.
        Nalbone (6-foot-4, 255 pounds) is a third-year player who saw action in two career games with Miami in 2010. He finished last season on Denver’s practice squad.

Drafted by the Dolphins in the fifth round (161st overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft, Nalbone was a four-year letterman at Monmouth University, where he totaled 101 career receptions for 1,079 yards (10.7 avg.) with nine touchdowns. He attended Lawrence High School in Lawrenceville, N.J., and was born on May 14, 1986.
