ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey was notified by Head Coach John Fox and the National Football League on Thursday that he was added to the 2011 Pro Bowl roster. He will replace Oakland cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who will not participate in league’s annual All-Star Game due to medical reasons.

The selection is the 10th of Bailey’s 12-year playing career, passing Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Haynes for the most Pro Bowls in NFL history at the cornerback position.

“I’m very excited to represent the AFC and the Denver Broncos at the Pro Bowl,” Bailey said. “It’s a great honor to play on the same field with the NFL’s best, and I’m looking forward to getting out to Hawaii.”

As team captain for Denver in 2010, Bailey totaled 45 tackles (41 solo), one sack (9 yds.), two interceptions (0 yds.) and 13 passes defensed in 15 games played (15 starts).

His six Pro Bowl selections as a Bronco (2004-07, ’09-10) tie him with linebacker Karl Mecklenburg and safety Dennis Smith for fifth in team history behind quarterback John Elway (9), safety Steve Atwater (8), linebacker Randy Gradishar (7) and tight end Shannon Sharpe (7).

Bailey is currently tied for sixth in team history with 30 interceptions, and his 48 career interceptions are the most by a cornerback and the third most in the NFL since his rookie season in 1999.

He joins wide receiver Brandon Lloyd as the Broncos’ representatives for the AFC squad, marking the 22nd consecutive season the team has produced multiple Pro Bowlers.

The Pro Bowl will be played on Sunday, Jan. 30, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu at 5 p.m. MST. The game will be televised nationally on FOX.
